Are you between 58 and 65 and feeling anxious in a period of waiting and uncertainty?
I call this being an "in-betweener." There are other times in life when we find ourselves in-betweeners—entering the workforce, becoming an empty nester, mid-career shifts in our 40s, divorce or the end of a long-term relationship, transitioning our work from go-go to slow-go to no-go or caring for our aging parents.
After working with many clients, I've found that 58 is often a pivotal age—an in-between age.
You may feel overwhelmed by concerns about job dissatisfaction, financial security, and the challenges of aging—another time of transition because the status quo may not be enough. These feelings are a normal part of being an "in-betweener," but they can also be a time to step back and consider new opportunities.
By leaning in, learning new skills, and exploring different income streams, you can influence what comes next and shape it into something that aligns with your goals and values.
Learning to work online opens new doors, giving you the flexibility and autonomy you want or need. You're roughly four years away from Social Security and about seven years from Medicare. Whether you're dissatisfied with your job, concerned about ageism, or anxious about potential layoffs, this "in-between" phase can be stressful.
While this article is written specifically for those in this age group, learning about an alternate income stream is wise for anyone in their 20s, 30s, or 40s. No promises or job security exist, so the more you build your autonomy, the more peaceful you can be in uncertainty.
Now is a great time to positively affect your financial and emotional future by exploring new ways to supplement or replace your income, spend more time with your family, travel earlier and more often than expected, or even move abroad. 😊
